Another of Captain Marryat’s drawings ofa midshipman’s life, this time showing a press gang engaged in a lively fight in a tavern. Unlike the one of the midshipman’s berth, this one was never redrawn by Cruikshank, nor published.

The 29th and 30th were spent hoisting in the guns, of which the ship now carried precisely 100. The lower deck was armed with thirty 32-pounders each 9ft 6in long and weighing around 55 hundredweight, all made by Walker and Company of Rotherham. The middle deck had twenty-eight 24-pounders which were two inches shorter and weighted 49–50 hundredweight. The upper deck had thirty-two 9ft 12-pounders of thirty-four tonnes. The shorter 12-pounders on the quarterdeck were all made by Walker.8 There was more bad weather on the 13th and 14th and the Victory had to fire a gun to ask for assistance, but at 3pm on the 14th she let go her mooring and proceeded to Spithead to join the fleet, anchoring there in the afternoon of the 16th.
